I interviewed 30 people of different ages and backgrounds the simple question, "How does a speaker work?" I then classified their knowledge on the subject into the categories of none, basic, and extensive. I was not overly surprised to see that a large majority claimed to have no clue how a speaker works. Most of the people with a basic understanding knew either that a magnet moved the cone but failed to understand how exactly the movement of the cone created sound.
